Two useful questions

Strength work asks how you practise moving against resistance. Conditioning asks how your training prepares you for the demands of an activity or everyday life. These are broad training ideas, rather than a single class format that everyone must follow.

Understand what is in the week

The NHS adult activity guidance includes both muscle-strengthening and aerobic activity. It identifies weights, bands and bodyweight exercises among the ways to strengthen muscles. This helps explain why time on a resistance machine and time doing aerobic activity can serve different purposes in a training week.

A program is more than a list of exercises

Ask which movements you will practise, how the starting difficulty is chosen, when the plan is reviewed and what the coach expects you to do between sessions. For muscle-building or physique goals, discuss the whole approach and how progress will be assessed; avoid judging a plan only by how tired you feel afterwards.
